Ni- Hao~!!
I got home from Shanghai last nigt~!!
I had my macbook with me...
but "Exblog" was blocked in China...
So I'm sorry that I couldn't post up new blog entries in China!
I'll spend a few days telling you all what happened in China~
DAY1 <11.Oct.2009>
I had a gig in Fukuoka the day before I left for Shanghai,
so I'd already packed my bags for China before I left for Fukuoka.
I took the Bus Limousine to Narita Airport from Ikebukuro Sunshine
City at 7:15am.
I didn't have much time to sleep the night before, so I slep really
well on the bus...
But I did get up at the right stop! lol
I checked in at 9am at Japan Air Lines with the students of
Chiba University of Commerce.
All the students were really excited to be going to China!
There were about 30 of us, including students, teachers, artists,
and some general public who wanted to join the tour.
By the way, did you know that the airports are really strict now?
I had to go through the stupid metal detector gates so many times!
Ask me to take my jacket off, then my belt, even my boots...
Do I seriously look that suspicious? lol
Another group from Japan also joined the tour and gigged with me.
Thats Gow and Michael from "GeneZ". (see pic above)
We became really close in the 4 days!
We became so friendly that people don't believe we only met 4 days ago! lol
Gow is half Phillipines, half English. She is the main vocalist of "GeneZ".
Since 13, she's been doing modeling and TV personality, and has been
in many TV series such as "Ultraman- Gaia".
She's also in the latest "Fanta" commercial in Japan!
Currently pursuing her music career along side hosting TV shows and
radio show, and acting on the side.
But man! She CAN sing you all!!!!
Michael is half Ghana, half Japanese. Back up vocalist and rapper.
He is so cool~ He even played soccer for J League!!
Currently pursuing as the leader of "GeneZ" composing songs and
writing lyrics.
He knows how to rap man! Raps with his soul!!
And a very down to earth guy!!
I'll be talking about Gow and Michael a lot from now on~
So remember their names!! lol
I slept again for 3 hours on the flight to Shanghai.
Gow and Mike sat behind me on the flight.
I turn around and they were also fast asleep.
Mike apparently went to a night club the night before,
and did an all nighter!! hahaha Such a crazy guy! lol
Good on you Michael~ hehehe
We finally arrive in Shanghai, and took the bus to "Shang Jiang".
About 2 hour bus trip?
There again, slept on the bus for an hour...
(Seems like all I've been doing is sleeping!! lol)
What I realised about China, is that the old places are really old,
and the new buildings are really tall and brand new.
There were lots of big same buildings everywhere.
It's the apartments in China.
"Shang Jiang" is also a little bit away from the central Shanghai,
so there weren't many cars around.
A few hours on the bus, we finally arrive at the University in "Shang Jiang".
This place is like a University Town. There are 7 different Universities in
this area with retail shops, cinemas and restaurants.
The size of this University Town is 533 hectares big!
Which is equivalent to 410 Tokyo Domes!!!
This university town is known in China as the
"first university campus without any walls".
The gig was the next day, so we quickly got into out meeting with the
chinese stage crews.
The students from the chinese university were full of energy!!
AND they spoke really good Japanese too!!
Apparently they LOVE Japanese cultures and J-pop too!
They know more about J-pop and Japanese celebrity scandals
more than us!! lol
After the meeting, we headed straight to the venue.
At first (before we arrived in China), we were all a little worried
about the sound equipments in China, but when we arrived at the
venue, everything was pretty much all done setting up.
AND very professional too!!
What a relief plugging in my electric violin and getting
sound out of it!!
They even had a guy controlling the lights, AND a following spot light!
The venue fits around 500 ppl, and they were expecting around 300
people to arrive for the concert.
After rehearsal, we all met up with the Japanese students and
went to dinner~
Our first Chinese cuisine in China!!
During rehearsal, Michael and I were dying of starvation! lol
The dinner was REALLY delicious!!
Pork Stew wrapped in chinese buns were THE BEST!!
After dinner, we all headed to the hotel.
We all said good night and headed back to our own rooms.
But everyone's all young, and I guess it's the first night
in china, and we were all excited...
So we all decided to meet down stairs at the cafe and had a few drinks!
Then Mike said to us
"I'm still really hungry, so gonna go eat some noodles!"
Then everyone was like "We wanna go too!!"
Yes, we only just had our dinner, but because we were eating in front
of the teachers, so everyone was eating less, just being polite.
haha
So we gave ourselves a new mission.
"Find a local restaurant in Shanghai!"
It was aleady 11:30pm...
There were 6 of us, walking around the hotel area looking for a
chinese restaurant.
It's so late.... not many places are open at this time of the night.
But the guy at the convenience store told us that there's a restaurant
on the same road up ahead that's open till 1am!!
It was the very last restaurant on the same road as the hotel.
As we walk in, there were no customers.
There was a guy, looked like the owner, sitting at a table with food
that could feed a family of 5 people.
He was drinking lots of beer too.
He was having a good time~ lol
He told us that it was still open, and will close at 1am.
Took us to the 2nd floor and seated us in a private vip room~!
No one could speak or understand Chinese except for me,
so they all wanted me to order their food for them!
But I hate chinese characters.... coz I'm not good at reading them..
I needed a menu with pictures in it...
But thought to myself, I gotta be cool and control the situation!!
So I ordered..
"Could I please have 2 plates of dumplings, ,,,,err...
and.... umm... something with meat, something with veges,
and something with fish please~
We'll just leave it to the chefs to decide!"
HAHAHA
I pretty much ended up asking for their recommendation!
haha
But it was SOOOO DELICIOUS!! We all ate it clean!!
I guess we were all really hungry! lol
After dinner, everyone became serious, and had a deep conversation
with everyone.
About their dreams, about the music industry.
At 1am, we left the restaurant and headed back to the hotel.
Rehearsal starts at 9:30am the next morning, so we all decided to head to
our own rooms and rest up for the big day.
So the first night was like this... so much to say...
We still have the 2nd, 3rd and the 4th day to talk about!!
I'll be writing lots and lots!!
Anyhow, I'll leave it till here for today~
Come back soon to see the 2nd Day's report!!
